Safety in The Chemistry Laboratory (Keselamatan di Laboratorium Kimia)

In this post, I will explain about safety work in the chemistry laboratory….
The chemistry laboratory can be a place of discovery and learning. However, by the very nature of laboratory work, it can be a place of danger. There are some potential dangers in the laboratory. The workers must be conscious of safety and reduce the risk of accidents by learning warning labels or signs, safety equipment and safety instructions.

There are ten of the ruIes in the chemistry laboratory who I knows, such as :

The rule number one :
“Never smell chemicals or solution directly”
Smelling the solution directly will make us poisoning because it can absorbed trough breathing.

Number two :
“No eating in the laboratory”
It’s tempting, but so dangerous. Just don’t do it !!

Number three :
“Label chemicals correctly”
Don’t mix chemicals unless instructed to do so.

Number four :
“No horseplay in the laboratory”
Attitude and behaviour of workers is one of the causes of the accident in the laboratory.

 Number five :
“Always constrain loose hair and clothing”
Tie long hair back and wear a lab coat.

Number six :
“No open-toed shoes in the laboratory”
No sandals to protect the foot from possible spills of corrosive chemicals.

Number seven :
“Know the location of emergency equipment”
We must knowthe locations of the fire blanket, extinguishers, eyewash, and shower.

Number eight :
“Dispose of chemicals properly”
            For the three most commonly generated waste mixture, such as;
-          Heavy metals solution : collect waste liquid containing heavy metals in a single large wide-mouthed container lined.
-          Organic solvent : collect waste  organic solvent in a glass or metal container.
-          Corrosive liquid : concentrated acid and bases must be disposed as hazardous waste.

Number nine :
“Always wear goggles”
We must always wear goggles when handling chemicals because the eyes is very prone to splash of acid and base.

Number ten :
“Clean up correctly after every experiment”
when finished work, we have to clean up the place and the tools that have been used.

Four categories of hazards commonly found in tne laboratories are :

“Corrosive”
Corrosive are materials that can injure body tissue or cause corrosion of metal by direct chemical action.

“Flammable substance”
Flammable substances have the potential to catch fire readily and burn in air.

“Oxidizing”
            Include chemicals that can explode.

“Toxic”
A toxic substance is one that even in small amounts can injure living tissue.

I think enough for this information.
If I have any informasion about chemistry laboratory, I will share the information to all of you .....
see yaaaa, I'm so glad to be useful for many people JJJJJJJJJJJJJJJ
